They can direct a patient to an ophthalmologist if they detect the need for surgery in the initial screening or examination of the eye.

The Optometrist can detect problems in vision which may require corrective measures such as prescriptive spectacles or contact lenses. They can also provide remedial counselling and post-operation care for patients of eye diseases.
